In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the birth of one of Ealing's greatest directors, Alexander Mackendrick, StudioCanal are releasing the restored version of the DVD and the first ever Blu-Ray of The Man In The White Suit starring Alec Guinness, Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker. Ealing Studios' output from the 1940s and 1950s helped define what was arguably the golden age for British cinema. It fostered great directors such as Alexander Mackendrick and Robert Hamer, while giving stars such as Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers the chance to shine. Sidney Stratton (Alec Guinness), a humble inventor, develops a fabric which never gets dirty or wears out. This would seem to be a boon for mankind, but the established garment manufacturers don't see it that way; they try to suppress it. Nevertheless, Sidney is determined to put his invention on the market, forcing the clothing factory bigwigs to resort to more desperate measures. Special Features: Exclusive 'Revisiting The Man In The White Suit' Featurette Stills Gallery Restoration Comparison Trailer

Baywatch

Baywatch is an American television series about the Los Angeles County Lifeguards who patrol the beaches of Los Angeles County, California starring David Hasselhoff. The show ran from 1989 to 1999 (and 1999-2001 as Baywatch Hawaii). According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Baywatch is the most watched TV show in the world of all time, with over 1.1 billion viewers. Baywatch premiered on NBC in 1989, but was cancelled after only one season despite high ratings because the studio, GTG, went out of business. Feeling the series still had potential, creators and Executive Producers Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Greg Bonann revived it for the first-run syndication market in 1991. Hasselhoff was given the title of Executive Producer to incent him to come back to the show. The series was hugely successful, especially internationally. The show led to a spin-off: Baywatch Nights, and a reunion movie, Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding. In 1999, with production costs rising in Los Angeles, and the syndication market shrinking, the plan was to move the show to Australia and launch Baywatch Down Under.

The Influence of Alexander Mackendrick on the K...

The late American-Scottish filmmaker, Alexander Mackendrick (1912-1993), directed just 9 films, his most prominent being the 1957 late noir masterpiece, Sweet Smell of Success. His early British films while staff director at London's Ealing Studios are today considered cinematic gems, especially The Ladykillers and The Man in The White Suit, both starring Sir Alec Guinness. This scholarly book explores in great detail Mackendrick's Scottish-themed films, Whisky Galore! and The Maggie. Considered benchmarks within the Celtic village film canon known as "kailyardism", both movies left lasting, indelible impressions on this pocket-sized sub-genre. Mackendrick's deft touches of mild anarchy, dark comedy, realism and use of children have often been copied, refashioned or referenced by a number of later "kailyard" filmmakers. Whimsical comedies like Local Hero, Waking Ned Devine and The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill all bear striking resemblances to Whisky Galore! & The Maggie. So does the classic horror film, The Wicker Man. This book examines how Alexander Mackendrick's cinematic devices continue to leave a creative imprint on Celtic-themed films produced on both sides of the Atlantic.
